Character Name: Ryan
Age: Turned aged 29, actual age 158
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: Straight
Power Level Fledgling
Description Standing just under six foot five, Ryan appears much like one would expect a man from Norway to appear. He has chin length blond hair, of which on occasion is cut short, depending upon his mood-of which is ever changing. His eyes are a pale blue contrasted by the tint of red to the whites of his eye and held beneath a strong brow. Ryan dresses well, believing everyone should at least make the best of a situation, and style and class in turn boosts hi ego. He prides himself in his collection of tailor made clothes, of which he has taken great care with over the centuries. Don't get him wrong, he can and will dress casually, but prefers suits over the ragged clothing that is commonly accessible in the destroyed city. It confuses him why more do not make an effort with their clothing, being a man who remembers the twentieth century and the world war two, it was part of mankind's resilience to make the best of a situation.
Personality Human. Ryan sees no reason as to why he should act or treat others just for what he now is. His mantra on life is treat people how you wish to be treated, but of course this can vary depending upon his ever changing mood. He is loyal but has a streak to him of which he looks after himself first, then others. Having been a soldier, though not by choice, he still suffers some of the after effects upon his mind, post war syndrome, that logically should of been healed by now, but made only worse by witnessing war after war. As such, when aggravated he can be rash, aggressive to a point of sadism in his actions. Those who have crossed him have never lived long enough to speak of it.
History Born in Norway in the early twentieth century he was a farm boy, working the fields and crop rotation on his father's land. Growing up was typical for a working class family, still struggling from the after effects of the first world war only to then stagger into the second. The farm was failing and as such Ryan had travelled across Europe, across to England where he had gained work in the mines. IT was hard work, but paid well enough for him to start saving to bring his father and mother over. Then Germany invaded Poland. Ryan was enlisted, if he had a choice he would of run far from the war, not being a man of violence. He was enlisted into the English Army, many of the immigrants were and they were sent off to war. Poorly trained, poorly fed and scared out of his mind, he fought, with the best of them, witnessing such horrors he still does not speak of it. It was in the north of France it all changed. His platoon had been surrounded captured by enemy soldiers, dragged, starving, and freezing across the mountains toward Germany. Mention of Camps and cleansing was spoken of. One night, as the German soldiers slept warm in their tents while Ryan and what was left of his men were left outside, chained like dogs, freezing, hell broke loose. Ryan could not make head nor tail out fo what was happening, but there was blood, screaming, men ripped apart, his own men, the German soldiers. He managed to break free from his chains, shredding off the skin of hie right hand in the process and he ran, only to be tackled to the ground. Looking up he saw a young man, barely seventeen glaring down at him and Ryan did all he could to try and fight him off. He thought he was a devil, a demon. But, as he learned later, he was neither.
The Vampire was called Nicholas, a young Russian man who had been turned into a Vampire during the eighteen hundreds. As Ryan lay there, pinned beneath him, he fought with all his strength, but could not even cause the man to flinch. It seemed, that Nicholas saw something in Ryan that reminded him of himself, and in turn, Ryan was turned into a Vampire that very night. Confused and prepared for death Ryan had agreed, honestly assuming the man was insane and he was simply going to die.
Upon his transformation Ryan was unsure if he was pleased, happy or mortified. He was a Vampire, and that niotio0n alone confused a terrified him. But Nicholas was a persistent and well educated teacher, and together they roamed far from the war torn Europe across the America where they became quite the players in the New York Night Life. While the world around them burned and struggled through war they maintained their high décor. After all, one has to make the best of a situation.
Their life of spender and grandeur did not last though. Mankind saw to that. When the war broke out, Ryan and Nicholas stood idle as earth was turned into a desolate waste land, purged by nuclear war. Then, the hunger set it. Humans had suddenly become an endangered species and with them Vampires soon followed. They travelled the world, seeking out food sources, managing together with them a small supply of willing donors, who saw it better to live with the protection of a Vampire, than alone, uncared for.
For the past ten years they have lived relatively well off compared to most of their kind, that was until three months ago when Nicholas mysteriously vanished. Ryan has since been travelling the continent looking for his maker until arriving in Pittsburgh. Along the way many of his humans fled, now he has just two and is extremely protective of his...well.."dinner."
Strengths and Weaknesses:
Strengths
-Has the strange knack of being able to find light in any dark situation. While many complain and whimper about how harsh life is, he simply soldiers on, uncomplaining.
-Skilled in warfare, to the extent he was a foot soldier and knows how to fire and arm guns.
-Has an amazing fashion sense (C'mon...it's totally a strength :-) )
-Has a strong sense of Calm collectivity to him which takes allot to rattle.
-Has two willing humans who feed him
Weaknesses
-Still suffers the mental scars from being a war vet. In turn loud sounds, sudden movements and violence can leave him visibly shocked or turn him into a frenzy of aggression.
-His desire to still be human, has caused him to hinder his vampire abilities, making his weaker than many of his age. He can't disconnect from his past human self.
-Social Phobia: Ryan is not experienced in social settings, and can in turn come across and harsh, brutal, rude and arrogant. He just does not like large groups of people and in turn never knows how to act.
-Exploding nature. Ryan is a ticking time bomb, beneath the cool exterior he has many issues needing to be addressed and his denial of the war effecting him has in turn left him slightly on edge.
-Vampires: Has only ever been around one other Vampire and has never met any others of his kind.
Powers:
Has the usual vampire strength, agility and senses, though in truth rarely uses his additional strength and such, favouring a more human approach to situations.
-Telepathy: Ryan can communicate telepathically and read humans minds. His power to read minds is limited only to humans and occasionally he can break the barrier and read a gifted humans mind. For some reason he can not push through the minds of shifters, other Vampires or Dragons.
Viewing : Ryan can connect with a human and see through their eyes he can do this with other Vampire's also, but the vampire must be willing and open.
Empathy: Can read and sense emotions, as well as lies. This is the lesser of his powers, one he had limited control over, unlike his telepathy and Viewing.
RP Sample:
However consequential it had been, Ryan tried to hold no regrets. But they weighed there, deep under a darkened brow. As he walked through the ruined city, Amber and Shauna, his human donors at his side, he could not help but wonder if keeping them with him had been the right thing to do. With Nicholas gone with it a sense of who Ryan was had diminished with his missing maker. What part he did not know, but there certainly was a hole, a gaping crevice inside him. Nicholas had calmed him, reminded him that no matter what they would be okay. They would survive. Now Ryan was doubtful. He was not a pessimist, far from it. He always sought out the silver lining, but alone, his food source diminished, now left to only two, he was struggling to find the Copper lining never mind the silver.
“Ryan we need to rest...” Amber said, causing Ryan to turn his head, looking over his shoulder. Both she and Shauna, once radiant blonde haired beauties were dirt covered tired eyed remnants of their former selves.
“Soon. We shall find shelter...” Ryan stopped then, and turned to each of them placing a hand on each of the girl’s shoulders, “It will be okay...” He nodded sharply. IT would be okay, it had to be. Hell, he had got through worse than this. But travelling did not sit well with Ryan, he liked to comforts of a roof over his head and somewhere to house what items he had left. Each of the girls carried a large bag over their shoulders with their goods. Ryan carried three large bags with his. Sentimental-no...he was carrying his clothes. Vain-yes.
Two hours until dawn and he had yet to see a building suitable and vacant to house himself and his humans. The main worry was rogue vampires snatching away his food source. He cared for them, his humans, perhaps not how one would expect, but for the simple truth that they were valuable to him.
