If there were roads to Teotihuacan then Hrothgar did not know of them. The City streets were now rendered useless as much of the ruins of Pittsburgh had left the once busy streets cut off in empty dead ends left behind as results from the rubble that had fallen into the streets. The only way to traverse the remnants was by foot and step by step Hrothgar had followed the path to Teotihuacan by whatever routes he could find, through buildings and over ruins. Wherever he could lay a sturdy foot he had pressed on driven by his promise. The German in him refused to let a well noted appointment fall to waste, especially not when he had penciled in an audience with a king. With this ironclad promise fixed firmly to the forefront of his thoughts he had set out early that morning to traverse the inhospitable terrain laying between his office at Allegheny General Hospital and that epicenter of Drachendom: Teotihuacan.
From atop the small heap of cracked stones and refuse from the destruction long past he could see the almost surreal image of it, like some long forgotten remnant of a civilized time enclosed on all sides by the barbarian wilderness of Pittsburgh. It almost seemed dreamlike the way the place seemed relatively well preserved compared to the ruin that lay about him on all sides. In the growing light of late morning he could not help but recall images of Byzantium when last he saw her... though the world fell apart around them the last survivors of Rome had held onto their final bastion in the eastern reaches of their empire and with it the last surviving remnants of a more enlightened era. To Hrothgar it conjured feelings of joy, to think that after so many years Humanity still clung to its admirable vestiges but at the same time it almost seemed dystopian, as though perhaps something about it was too good to be true. These were thoughts for another time though as there were more pressing concerns at the moment.
Hrothgar turned now to face back the way he came, shifting the strap of his satchel to hang easier on his shoulder and tapping his walking stick on the stones. "Over Her Gabriella!" He called out, as he waved to his ward and adoptive daughter, the woman who made up the entirety of his family and now one of the primary reasons for his journey. He stepped down a little towards her to see if she needed help climbing the rubble. "Just a little further my dear, the building is in sight, really you should come and see it!"
