Vampires are now the dying breed of species. The once all powerful species that never had to worry about food, getting almost as bad as the human race which they fed off of. Those that are old and powerful remain sane, or saner then that of the younger and newly turned vampires. Rules had to be put in order between the vampires. They couldn’t risk the young ones going crazy or crazier… Times are tough and harder for them then they have been in centuries…
They had kept themselves secrets from the human race for centuries. Only when the wars broke out between the humans did they slowly creep out of the shadows, out of hiding. Human blood, Shifter blood and even the blood of a few dragons poured through the streets. Buildings began to crumble along with the human population and then knew that the golden age of the vampires was coming to an end.
Humans finally got to meet the creatures that they thought were only fiction, stories told to scare the faint of heart. The scent of the blood drove many young vampires insane, causing them to give themselves up early. This caused other supernatural beings to step in, intervene to stop them from massacring cities. In all of this the vampires gave away the other supernatural beings as humans found it hard to destroy them. All that they thought they knew about vampires almost all of it was fake, made up stories, just as everyone always wanted it to be…
Characteristics
Vampires had gotten away with passing as humans for centuries because they resemble them so closely. There skin is paler than most humans as they can not go out into direct sunlight at all. It will burn there skin cause them to weaken severely, and has even caused a few to go mad. Those that go mad were destroyed so not to give them away. Older vampires those that have lived for over 500 years often walk out during the day. When it is overcast, raining and otherwise dreary day. The older the vampire the less the daylight hours and the sun affect them.
Their bodies are not cold as death in all actuality there body temperature averages at about 96 degrees. Cold bodies was a lore to keep themselves hidden. It is as if they are suffering from a slight cold nothing serious but nothing to much to draw attention to themselves. Most humans don’t even recognize the touch of a vampire along their skin like they would that of a shifter with hotter blood.
They can drink anything, and not get sick and can nibble on human food to pass through a dinner or such if needed. Wine and alcohol are their favorite things to drink other than blood. Blood is the only thing that will nourish a vampire, it is the only thing that will give them strength as well. Human blood is the most common thing for them to drink. They have to be careful as to not drain a victim dry. Their saliva is special in the fact that it will seal a bite wound if the vampire just licks the marks and gives it a few seconds to work. Many times a human does not know they were with a vampire at all and many bites are done during sex or foreplay. If a lot of blood isn’t taken then the human normally feels nothing out of the ordinary. If it was a younger vampire who fed, who has to drink more to live and function often times the human needs to sleep for a bit then they are normal.
Vampires can often feed off of shifters. Many shifters do not allow vampires to feed from them. Their blood is much more rich than that of a human. Vampires have found that Lycan blood is a bit sweeter on their tongues, fills them up faster and makes them stronger than that of a human. It is also very odd to them that animal blood is so bitter and foul, while shifter blood is so sweet. Animal blood is the last thing a vampire will feed from, it is a last resort but recently it has been the only resort for many of them. The blood is bitter, foul tasting and not very nourishing but it is keeping the older vampires alive.
They can feed from each other, it does nothing more than to fill there stomachs, take away the pain of hunger. It tastes wonderful on their lips but other than that they just get the feeling of pleasure on their tongues. Vampires can not physically feed off of a dragon unless there is a wound on a dragons skin. Their teeth can only penetrate three area’s on a dragon, the inside of their thigh, right on their jugular and the inside of their elbow. Anywhere else they would try to bite their fangs are not strong enough to break the skin. Dragons will never let a vampire willingly feed off of them, those that have tasted a dragons blood was one they trapped, tortured and then killed. Or one that they found dying, injured by others of their kind, or by something else.
Holy objects, Garlic, a wooden stake through the heart will not stop or help fend you from a vampire. They do not harm them in any way. A stake could possibly put a scratch on a vampire but do no damage to them at all. Holy objects and any other trinkets or charms will make a vampire laugh, they have no special power over them. Many actually wear them, to show off old religion or they just fancy the design or the extra jewelry. Vampires skin are hard, bullets can slow them down but do nothing else to them. Swords, daggers and knives fashioned of silver will harm them. The wounds take longer to heal, hurt them worse. They only way to kill a vampire is to cut off their head, remove their heart or burn the body.
An older vampire, 500 years + in age will turn to ashes if their head is removed. They are dead and gone to this world when that happens. If the vampire is younger than 500 their body will not turn to ash. This is when many who are hunting vampires or those that want to kill them will remove their heart or burn the body until it is nothing but ashes. So that they know they are destroyed and can not rise again.
Sleep is very important to a new vampire and a younger, weaker one. They sleep during the day, because the sun will harm them. From sunrise to sunset many will sleep. Ancients and those older and stronger only need a few hours of deep sleep to survive and function. The longer one sleeps the more energy they will have, the stronger they will be, if they are healthy to begin with.
Changing
To be changed into a vampire the vampire must have bitten and fed from the human they are willing to change. Many do not change just anyone, almost all of the time they change someone they feel that they can not live without. It had kept their numbers smaller until a few ancient vampires created those they felt could survive the years or those strong enough as a human to protect their kind would be even stronger as a vampire to do such. As long as they have fed from the person once this process will work.
The vampire must then cut themselves with a silver blade so the wound does not heal directly. Giving the human they are trying to change time enough to taste and drink of the vampire's blood. They drink their fill of the blood or until the creating vampire tells them to stop or the human pulls away. Many humans are hesitant at first at the thought of drinking blood but find that their creators blood is often as sweet as the finest wine and smooth going down their throats.
The change begins almost immediately. Their senses are the first thing to change though they do not feel any different then they had. Speed, agility and hearing are perfect just like that of any vampire. Their teeth sharpen and are able to elongate after the first night. The sun is very damaging to a new vampire and sleep during the day is important as well.

Just remember that hardly any two vampires are they same, but many have similarities or a few powers similar to another. Often times a new vampire will have a few or similar abilities that could be passed down from their creator depending on their strength.
All vampires are strong, can lift cars over their head with ease, crush bone. Their hearing and sight is much more advanced as well. They can see in the dark perfectly as if the lights were on for a normal individual.
